Free tickets available to Feb. 7 screening of ‘Anita: Speaking Truth to Power’ documentary

Ƶ will host a free screening of the 2013 documentary, “Anita: Speaking Truth to Power,” at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, at the Athena Cinema, located at 20 S. Court St. Athens, Ohio.

Anita Hill's graphic testimony against United States Supreme Court nominee Clarence Thomas in October 1991 was a turning point for gender equality in the U.S. and ignited a political firestorm about sexual harassment and power in the workplace that resonates still today.

Against a backdrop of sex, politics, and race, the documentary reveals the story of a woman who has empowered millions to stand up for equality and justice. Directed by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Freida Mock, it celebrates Hill's legacy and provides a rare glimpse into her private life and career.

The University will host an open discussion at the theater after the screening. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so please arrive early.

The event is hosted by the Ƶ Office for Diversity and Inclusion, Ƶ Multicultural Center, Ƶ Women’s Center, Black Student Cultural Programming Board and the Athena Cinema.
