Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine faculty member named Ohio鈥檚 Family Physician of the Year
Nathaniel Overmire, D.O., assistant clinical professor, was named family physician of the year by the Ohio Chapter of the American College of Osteopathic Family Physicians. The award recognizes an osteopathic physician who is involved in the community and has an exceptional clinical practice. Overmire, a 2016 graduate of the Heritage College, serves as a part-time faculty member on the college鈥檚 Dublin campus where he teaches clinical skills to first- and second-year medical students. In 2022, he became the Franklin County coroner.
鈥淎s a coroner, I talk to families all the time who are experiencing a loss, and what I want to say to you all tonight is that I鈥檓 so proud of you鈥ecause I know that you are dealing with trauma, dealing with grief鈥nd I鈥檓 proud of you for showing up and being here and being in this community as an osteopathic physician,鈥 said Overmire to attendees at the recent Ohio Osteopathic Symposium, where numerous Heritage College faculty and alumni were recognized for their achievements. 鈥淎s an OUHCOM alumnus, I am also proud of what we are doing. We are influencing our community, we are making our community safer, better. We鈥檙e teaching the next generation of physicians.鈥
Two Heritage College graduates were also recognized by ACOFP as the top family medicine residents in Ohio. Jessica Harrah, D.O., is the chief resident at Doctors Hospital Family Medicine and graduated from the Heritage College in 2018. Kate Spencer, D.O., a 2022 Heritage College graduate raised in Glouster, is a resident with the OhioHealth O鈥橞leness Family Medicine Residency in Athens.
