Alumna鈥檚 return highlights commitment to student mental health at OHIO Eastern

For Lauren Hamilton, returning to feels like coming full circle. The social work alumna is now serving as the on-campus point of contact for the (TCHC), where she鈥檚 dedicated to supporting students and fostering a welcoming environment for those seeking help.

鈥淚 know firsthand how challenging and rewarding college life can be,鈥 Hamilton said. 鈥淏eing back on this campus, helping students through their struggles, feels deeply meaningful. I want them to know they鈥檙e not alone.鈥

Hamilton will be available each week in Shannon Hall Room 334A during new hours: Tuesdays from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The adjusted schedule is designed to align more closely with 黑料视频 Eastern鈥檚 Wellness Wednesday initiative, making it easier for students to engage with services.

For more than 40 years, TCHC has provided education, advocacy and support in Belmont, Harrison and Monroe counties, specializing in mental wellness and anti-violence programs. Its decade-long partnership with 黑料视频 Eastern reflects a shared commitment to student well-being.

Through the collaboration, students and faculty have access to: 

  • On-campus support: Confidential, immediate assistance from a Qualified Behavioral Health Specialist (QBHS), including crisis intervention and referrals.
  • Counseling sessions: Up to six free, trauma-informed counseling sessions off-campus or via telehealth, addressing concerns like anxiety, grief, family tensions or major life changes.
  • Advocacy services: Trained staff available 24/7 to support survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.
  • Educational programs: Classroom presentations on topics such as healthy relationships, substance use, supporting friends in crisis, social media safety, and sexual violence prevention.

鈥淟auren understands both our students鈥 needs and the culture of this campus,鈥 Kellner-Muscar said. 鈥淗aving an alumna in this role makes the support more relatable and accessible.鈥

Hamilton said she hopes her role helps reduce the stigma of seeking help.

鈥淪ometimes taking that first step to talk with someone can feel overwhelming,鈥 she said. 鈥淏ut the sooner you reach out, the sooner you can begin feeling supported and stronger.鈥
