German Minor

The German minor allows students to enrich their major program with advanced language skills and intercultural understanding.

Frequent writing assignments and speaking activities reinforce clarity of thought and expression, and small classes offer individual attention and encourage dialog, collaboration, and curiosity about others. While not required, many minors participate in a study abroad program to one of the German-speaking countries.

Careers with a German Minor

Many job listings include a background in foreign languages as a desirable tool. In addition, a minor in German helps students acquire a variety of skills leading to success in the job market: communication skills, analytical skills, interpersonal skills, a capacity for problem solving, and the ability to learn quickly.

Students who minor in German often major in fields such as journalism, political science, education, sociology, or business. They typically find jobs in areas like print or broadcast media, government, teaching, social services, or industry, and their language proficiency and cultural competence make them stand out among other job applications.
